Character Application:

Name: Guy Gardner
Journal: [info]guy_gardner
Fandom: Green Lantern/Lantern Corps/DCU - http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Green_Lantern_Corps
Continuity Point In Fandom: After War of the Green Lanterns, but before DCnU
PB: Damian Lewis
Age: 35
Personality: Guy is brash and tactless. He tells it like it is and isn't worried about hurting feelings in the process, somethings just need saying. He is self assured and cocky, although a lot of that attitude is just a facade, a wall to hide his internal self doubt. The desires that drive him most are to do what is right and to prove himself as the hero he knows he can be. Guy can also have a little bit of a jealous streak when it comes to the likes of his fellow Lanterns, most notably, Hal Jordan.

Canon Puncturable: No

Special Abilities/Skills:
-Power Ring and Lantern (Green Lantern Corps.)
- Indomitable Will
- Green Lantern Ring Mastery: Guy's constructs are amongst the most powerful. Guy is so eager to ringsling, and possesses so much raw will power, his ring is often sparking like a leaky water faucet about to explode.
- Strength level: Class 100+; while using constructs created by the ring Guy is effectively able to lift/move tremendous weights far heavier than 100 tons with little effort. Without the ring Guy possesses the strength of a man his age, height and build who engages in regular exercise making him capable of press lifting at least his own weight.
- Practically trained and practiced fighter: Though his technique make leave something to be desired, and some folks might call him a street fighter or bar brawler, Guy can protect himself pretty well even without his ring.

Character History: [I apologize for the length of this. I really did attempt to be as brief as possible while still covering all the important things]

Guy Gardner was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, the second of two boys born to Roland and Peggy Gardner. His brother, Mace was the ideal son in his alcoholic father's eyes and therefore, Guy endured Roland's frequent abuse. After realizing that he was never going to be good enough in his parents eyes, no matter what he did, Guy eventually gave up trying to impress them and instead became a juvenile delinquent. A bad boy and a criminal, he was constantly in and out of juvenile hall until his brother, Mace beat him up and set him straight. After that Guy started taking life, and his future seriously, doubling his efforts in school and getting a job in order to pay his way through college. Guy went on to graduate a with Liberal Arts Major from the University of Michigan, where he also played football, with degrees in both psychology and education. For a time he worked counseling prisoners, before settling into a permanent job as a gym teacher for children in special education. His brother later committed suicide after being shot by drug dealers, leaving him paraplegic, and being revealed as a dirty cop and his father later died of liver failure.

When Abin Sur, the previous Green Lantern of Sector 2814, crash-landed on Earth and had to choose a new ring barer to replace himself, there were two choices, Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner. Hal was chosen because he was the one of them physically closest at the time and thus, he became the first Green Lantern of Earth. Something that Guy still harbors some resentment toward Hal for. However, unbeknownst to him, Guy would serve as Hal's back-up. Unfortunately, Guy was removed from back-up status after he was hit by a bus and the Guardians made architect John Stewart Hal's new back-up. During his recovery Guy met Kari Limbo, a gypsy woman with limited precognitive abilities who told him that he had a great destiny ahead of him, and they also became involved in a relationship.

After Hal Jordan's ring was damaged by the Crumbler, Guy finally had his chance to become a Green Lantern as Hal had returned to Oa to have his ring repaired. During this time Guy disappeared when Hal's power battery blew up in his face and he was presumed dead. Hal and Kari, consoling each other after Guy's death, developed a relationship that eventually led to an engagement. On their wedding day it was discovered that Guy had actually been sent to the Phantom Zone and a rescue mission was launched.

However, Guy had been brainwashed and he teamed up with General Zod against Hal and Superman. Hal was barely able to leave the Zone alive with an unconscious Superman. When Hal went back into the Zone to rescue Guy, he found Sinestro had kidnapped him and taken him to the Antimatter Universe of Qward. After doing battle with his arch-nemesis, Hal finally brought Gardner back. However, he was in a comatose vegetative state that he wouldn't come out of for several years.

When Guy finally stirred from his coma he did so wishing to take back the power ring and the title of Green Lantern. At that time, John Stewart was the active Green Lantern of Earth due to the fact that Hal Jordan had decided to retire. After a dramatic confrontation between Gardner and Jordan over Abin Sur's grave, Guy finally got what he wanted.

During the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Guy was given a mission by one faction of the Guardians, to destroy the moon of Qward where the Anti-Monitor had been born. To do this, he had to assemble a strike team of supervillains and invade the Antimatter Universe. After the mission had already been started it was discovered that destroying the moon of Qward would undo the Anti-Monitor's tether to the mortal universe, and make him much more powerful. All Lanterns available were sent to the Antimatter Universe, to stop Guy at all costs and there was a cataclysmic battle for the fate of the universe. Before the moon could be destroyed, John Stewart took Guy out. Although defeated, disgraced, and wanted dead by nearly half the galaxy for his actions during the Crisis, the Guardians still saw potential in Gardner, and kept him on as a Lantern.

When Guy finally returned to Earth he was instrumental in the formation of the new Justice League International as well as the subsequent rebrith of the new Justice League. After losing a fight to Hal and being forced to give up his ring and quit the Lantern Corps, Guy found the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps, and had a battle of wills with the Soul of Sinestro for control of his Qwardian Power Ring. After wrestling it from his hands, Gardner single-handedly put down the attackers that he himself had led to Oa and drove them back to Qward.

Years later, due to the actions of Parallax, Guy's ring experienced a massive power surge and burnt out, leaving him without a method of recharging it. Deciding to lead a hand-picked squadron to ground zero, Guy and his squad met and were quickly outmatched by the strength of Parallax. After a final battle between Guy Gardner and Hal Jordan, Guy was defeated, and his ring destroyed by Hal's augmented powers. Depowered again, he was sent back to Earth unconscious.

When Hal Jordan came back to life and brought the rest of the Green Lanterns with him in a climactic battle. Jordan's ring duplicated itself to provide him with one, and in an explosion at the Justice League Watchtower, Guy finally became a Green Lantern once again. Parallax had possessed the last remaining Guardian and Hal, Guy, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner and Kilowog did battle with the monstrosity. In a fantastic display of ring-work, the five Lanterns won the day and restored energies to the Central Power Battery of Oa, reigniting the flames of the Corps.

The Green Lantern Corps was back in action, and recruiting new members. Having finally proven himself as one of the best, Guy, along with Kilowog and Kyle Rayner, is selected to act as an instructor to the thousands of rookies now pouring in.

After the battle with the Spiders of Vega where he rallied the Lanterns together, took control of the entire Corps and led them to triumphant victory underneath his strategies. The Guardians noted that beneath his brutish exterior lied exceptional qualities that warranted their special attention, and he was promoted to Lantern Number One of the Corps Honor Guard, not restricted to any sector.

During the Infinite Crisis Guy was a big part of the force that went up against the OMACs and Guy also led the Lantern Corps' stand against Superboy Prime's attack against Oa.

Due to extreme length, War of Light, Blackest Night, Brightest Day and War of the Green Lanterns time period (as well as even more in-depth versions of the rest) can be read here.
